The clustered village of Barka lies above the Vremska valley at an altitude of about 614 meters. This small village is one of the few in Slovenia where you become one with nature… more: The name of the village is said to have originated when the residents of Barka used to walk to mass in Vreme. When they reached the Reka river and couldn’t cross because there was no bridge, they made a boat to cross to the other side. The residents of Vreme would always shout, “Look, the “Barčani” are coming!” And so they got the name Barčani, and their village became Barka (“barka means “boat”, hence they would be refered to as “boat people”)
